Danish visitors given a warm welcome
A group of young Danish students have brought a little slice of Scandinavia to Paisley.
Pupils from the Skovbrynet School, in Denmark, arrived at Renfrew High to meet their“twins”in a huge get-together celebrating the two schools.
Youngsters from Paisley’s twin town of Gladsaxe were welcomed by Renfrew High’s S2 Leadership Team, who gave a presentation on what it’s like to be at a school in Scotland.
The Danish teens, who study filmmaking at their school, then put their camera skills to good use and interviewed their Scottish peers.
More activities followed, including a friendly football match and a poetry workshop.
Education and Children’s Services convener, Councillor Jim Paterson, said: “We were delighted to welcome pupils from Gladsaxe to Renfrewshire as we continue to strengthen our links with our twin town.
“The pupils had the opportunity to learn from their peers, find out more about different cultures and discover different ways of learning, all of which will be beneficial for their educational experience.
“The schools have built a strong educational relationship in recent years and I hope this can continue to benefit our young people moving forward.”
The pupils and teachers were also treated with a reception at Paisley Town Hall hosted by Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron, to celebrate the connection between both the two schools and the two areas.
“Pupils and teachers from Skovbrynet School experienced a very successful educational day at Renfrew High School,” he added.
“We exchanged views on different subjects regarding the friendship between Gladsaxe and Paisley, which we hope to expand even further.
“I believe both the Danish and the Scottish pupils had a memorable day that they will remember forever.”
