Jemma achieves a hat-trick of PBs

- Craig Ritchie

Jemma Reekie made it backto- back personal bests in the 1500m with a stunning performance at the latest British Milers Club meet.

The Kilbarchan AAC athlete was in action in Watford, with a host of Scottish talent on show in north London.

The Habbie has enjoyed an outstanding 12 months, and continued to star south of the border over the weekend as she followed up her stellar display from the Loughborough International to again smash her best time.

The European Under-20 champion took second spot in the race, hot on the heels of her win at Loughborough, in a time of 4.10.10.

That proved to be better than her time of 4.11.96 from her previous outing, making it a hat-trick of PBs having also recently recorded a PB over the shorter 800m distance.

Scotland Under 20 athlete Erin Wallace would achieve a World Juniors qualifying time in the same race as she finished fourth in 4.14.80, while there was a host of success for other Scottish athletes.

Jamie Williamson made another leap forward by winning the A race in the men’s 1500m programme with a PB of 3.41.59 and that was among a number of highlight performances.

Sol Sweeney, who shares the same coach as Reekie in the shape of Andy Young, was a race winner with a PB of 3.45.22 and his team- mate, Ben Greenwood, continued his successful return from injury by winning the B race 800m in a season best of 1.49.05.

Naomi Lang was yet another Scottish race winner with a PB of 4.20.10 in her 1500m which also saw Eloise Walker at 4.29.19.

Reekie admits she still holds out hope of achieving a European Championship qualifying time.

She said: “The European Championship qualifying time is a tough one – 4.07.00– and the event in Britain is quite stacked – but I just have to try and aim high. I have to see if I can chip away at my PB, get under 4.10 and then see if I can take it on further from there.”
