BEST FOOT FORWARD Workers raise almost £5k for Ronald McDonald House

- Express Reporter

McDonald’s staff have raised almost £ 5,000 for a children’s charity by walking up to 23 miles.

McDonald’s franchisee Peter O’Keefe and 18 crew from his five restaurants have raised £4,816.62 for the Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow.

They took part in the annual Kilt Walk, which started at Glasgow Green, and walked either a 15 mile or 23-mile route across the city dressed in their kilts.

The annual event raises money for Ronald McDonald House, which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children being treated at the Royal Hospital for Children.

Specialist Ronald McDonald Houses are located near specialist children’s hospitals and allow parents to stay nearby while their children have treatment. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses in the UK, and money raised from the Kilt Walk challenge will go directly towards helping to keep more families close to their children being treated in The Royal Hospital for Children.

Peter, whose franchises include branches at Renfrew Road, Paisley, and two at Braehead, said: “I was really proud of the team for joining me in taking part in the annual Kilt Walk across Glasgow.

“The Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow offers an invaluable service to families across the city, and I try and do my bit for the charity wherever I can.

“I would like to thank everyone who came down on the day and all those who made generous donations – I look forward to my next fundraising challenge.”

Helen Craig, fundraising manager at Ronald McDonald House, said every penny counts and the donation is greatly appreciated.

She added: “We really appreciate the ongoing support from McDonald’s. It is so important that we raise awareness of the charity and its fundraising events. We would like to thank Peter and his team, as well as everyone who donated for helping to keep the doors of the house open.”
