Hub brings lonely tenants together
Community centre aims to reduce social isolation
A new community hub at a block of flats has been opened with an unveiling party.
Linstone Housing completed the transformation of the Langholm Community Hub, which is located on the ground floor of Belmar Court, Linwood.
It was transformed from a two-bedroom flat to one large communal space earlier this year.
Linstone received feedback from staff and tenants that showed many of the tenants were isolated and didn’t interact with their neighbours or their community
That led to Linstone dedicating resources to develop the hub which offers tenants a place where they can get together to socialise and take part in activities that build confidence, improve their skills and create relationships.
And they worked closely with external agencies such as Impact Arts, Active Communities, ROAR, Toddle Tots, and Connect4Renfrewshire so that the hub can host a variety of classes from digital skills and money advice to Tai Chi and arts and crafts.
A Linstone tenant told why the hub is important to her and other members of the community.
The resident said: “I have friends. I can come down to the hub and have a good laugh. It takes the hours away that you would be sitting up in the flat with nobody.”
Linstone secured funding from the Social Economy Growth Fund to set up the hub.
The funding will enable Linstone to hire more staff to open more community hubs in the Linwood and Johnstone areas.
The aim is to help reduce social isolation.
