Two Paisley start-ups have received £ 1,000 each to support their ambitious ideas.

The lucky locals were granted the cash after their applications i m p re s s e d t h e jud g e s b e h i n d Tom Hu n t e r Foundation’s 100 Disrupters competition.

Ross McFarlane, 23, was given the money to put towards his theatre company In The Works.

The spoken word theatre group from Barrhead took their show to the Fringe last year and plan to use the cash from the grant to travel to Edinburgh again with a brand new show.

And the good news kept coming for Paisley as care group Wee Diamonds, based in the Tannahill Centre, also took home a £1,000 grant.

Morgan Devaney, 21, applied for the competition so she could finance a trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park for the Ferguslie Park care group.

We e D i a m o n d s , a group for youth in kinship care, aims to give the members and their families social and educat i o na l opportunities.

Anyone from Renfrewshire West can apply to join the group for the day trip and Wee Diamonds hope the trip will help to boost their numbers and raise awareness amongst the community.

The Tom Hunter Foundation’s ‘ 100 Disrupters’ competition was set up as part of the Year of Young People 2018 to award 100 grants of £1,000 to individuals or groups who are positively disrupting Scotland.

Sir Tom Hunter, founder of THF, was so impressed by the calibre of entrants, however, that he has awarded 113 grants to young people.

The youngest applicant, at six- years- old, applied for funding to produce an old family recipe.

Sir Tom Hunter said; “We were very impressed by the many br i l l i a n t initiatives entered by young people in Scotland, and we are delighted to have awarded more than 100 grants which will help them to embrace their ideas.

“As our next generation of leaders, the ambitions of young people of Scotland need to be welcomed, and it was so positive to read all of the fantastic ideas that we were sent.

“We were encouraged to read that many of the ideas were to help and support others in need, and we are delighted to have provided them with grants to realise their ambitions.”
