New flats for veterans

-

A ground-breaking event on Thursday will mark the beginning of work to build 24 single-living apartments for veterans on the Erskine Estate, in Bishopton.

The apartments will be for single ex-service men and women of working age.

The new accommodation will be located adjacent to Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company within the Erskine Veterans Village, with some of the flats reserved for those working in the facility.

The apartments will give veterans in need of accommodation a place to live within a community of fellow ex-service personnel, where they can continue to engage with people who have shared experiences and backgrounds.

Erskine chief executive Ian Cumming, pictured, said:“Building apartments for younger veterans is just one of several initiatives we are taking forward to extend our service provision. We envisage a true Veterans Village which will support many more veterans enabling them to access advice, accommodation and employment. Building work begins next week on July 9 and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2019.”

Gary Climson, of McTaggart Construction, said“We will be working closely with the Erskine team to provide this high quality development over the coming months and look forward to delivering the completed development.”
