Anchor are piling on the pressure

Club is in touching distance of front-runners

- Craig Ritchie

Anchor Bowling Club continue to heap pressure on front-runners Caledonia in Paisley and District’s Division One.

The two sides maintained their winning ways with well- earned home victories.

And there was very much a homely feel to the past week of action as four out of the five home sides all recorded wins.

A 10-6 victory over Meikleriggs was enough to keep Anchor within touching distance of the pacesetters, but Caledonia again showed their rivals why they are top of the league as they triumphed 11- 5 over Kilbarchan.

Elderslie meanwhile suffered a slip-up, dropping to third, after losing 10-6 to Blacklandmill.

Lowly Linwood continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table following a 4-12 defeat at the hands of Renfrew, while Barrhead remain in fourth spot having impressed in a 13- 3 win over Wellmeadow.

The sides all return to action this afternoon as the sun-soaked greens prepare to be packed once again.

League- leading Caledonia will be hoping to maintain their winning run when they welcome Elderslie.

Linwood will be striving to record a much-needed win when they take on Wellmeadow at home,

And Anchor will be bidding to keep the pressure on, with Kilbarchan their visitors.

In Division Two, there is just no stopping Charleston, who have been the pacesetters since the very start of the season.

No one can get near them, as they once again proved, following a stunning 15-1 victory over Victoria on the sixth week of action.
