From Russia with love to Paisley’s university
Siberian business students celebrate graduation
06.07.2018 A group of Russian graduates donned kilts and tartan sashes as a way of saying spasiba – thank you – to Paisley for success in their studies.
The ten men and woman studied at the town’s University of the West of Scotland campus as part of a partnership between the uni and Siberian State Transport University (SSTU).
University of the West of Scotland’s MSc International Management programme is delivered at SSTU as part of a Transnational Education agreement.
And many of those who successfully undertook this course are managers who are sponsored and fully supported by Russian Railways.
The Russians’ home area is famous for the Trans-Siberian Railway, which is considered to be one of the great train journeys of the world, and attracts people from all over the globe who are keen to experience trips across vast snowy expanses.
The International Management programme has been designed to build students’ international management careers and equip them with the theoretical knowledge and skills to work in environments requiring high levels of international managerial competence.
The programme, which is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management ( CMI), develops global perspectives of business and management, informed by a sound understanding of the wider cultural and national contexts in which organisations exist.
At a ceremony at Paisley Abbey this week, the graduates honoured Scotland and Paisley by wearing a touch of tartan at their degree ceremony.
The men wore full kilts and the women decked themselves in tartan sashes.
Ron Livingstone, Interim Dean of the School of Business and Enterprise, said: “The university has had partnership links with SSTU for more than eleven years and we are delighted to see our third cohort from SSTU to graduate with a Masters degree from UWS.”
