People of all ages got together to celebrate 70 years of the NHS and thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff who keep us in good health.

More than 100 partygoers joined staff from the Ferguslie Clinic in Paisley to mark the occasion.

In honour of the National Health Service’s landmark birthday on July 5, NHS staff dressed up as nurses from across the decades.

Supporters aged zero to 80 gathered at Tannahill Centre, in Ferguslie Park, for a funpacked day filled with activities.

Guests took part in a free game of tombola and shared fond memories from the past.

Organiser Debbie Rankin said it was heartwarming to see so many different members of the community come together.

She said: "We were hoping for a good turnout but we were really blown away by the response from the community.

"Mums, grandparents and babies were all there and the art and theatre club dropped by too. It really was a great day- everyone really enjoyed it."

Debbie said that the day had a particularly positive impact on the older visitors.

She said: "We had old photos of Ferguslie up on the walls and some of the older people could even remember the names of the people in the photos.

"And they really enjoyed seeing and remembering the old fashioned uniforms."

Health visitors from the Ferguslie donned traditional nurse garms to highlight the changes that have happened in the NHS since it was created in 1948.

Helen Munro, Paula Towle and Frances Curren all dressed up to mark the occasion and despite the hot weather, said the costumes were lots of fun.

Debbie added: “I think the outfits were great as it really reminded the older people of how things used to be and reminded us all of how different things are now.

"The NHS is so universal, everyone has a story and can identify with it.

"It was so wonderful we could celebrate together. It was a great day.

"Everyone from Ferguslie got something different from it."
