Driver spat at police

-

A white van man swung for cops before gobbing on them during a street rammy.

George Murray, 31, was quizzed by police over fears he had been drink-driving.

But he refused to do a roadside breath test and hurled homophobic slurs at them.

Murray admitted the offences when he was summoned to Paisley Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Seith Ireland warned he could face a stern rap, but deferred sentence for a background report.

He said: “All of this is a concern, but assault on police is of particular concern.

“Th e social work department will be in touch.

“You are obliged to go see them and come back to court.”

Murray kicked off after police stopped him in Inchinnan’s Greenock Road.

He repeatedly tried to punch them before spitting on them, last December 3.

Police had asked him to take a breath test over fears he had been boozing before driving a Ford Transit.

The court heard he turned nasty, even though he had been recently sentenced for another matter.

Defence lawyer Kirsty McGeehan admitted her client had previously come to the attention of the courts.

She said: “He was on another order at the time of the offence.

“It has since been revoked and a fine was imposed.”

He was blasted for the attack on PCs Guy Jenner and Innes Walsh.

The brute could be jailed when he appears back in the dock next month.

Murray, of Inverkip, Inverclyde, has been ordered to return on August 10.
