It’s a Knockout to be revived by Accord

Teams of eight wanted for future event

Look out your funny bone and help a favourite charity.

Paisley’s Accord Hospice is hosting its very own It’s a Knockout in March of next year, and people are being invited to get involved.

It’s a Knockout was a hugely popular Friday-night BBC TV show in the 1970s that saw teams take part in outlandish open-air games, dressed in super-sized costumes.

An Accord spokesman said: “Think races in crazy giant suits – sumo penguins, inflatable hurdles, wet sponges and kingsize quantities of foam. This is your only chance to play the original It’s a Knockout games from the BBC.

“Brilliant, competitive fun, It’s a Knockout whips up team spirit with a ton of foam and fun. We can guarantee everyone will be howling with laughter.”

The event is still at the planning stage, but Accord wants to know who will set up a team of eight.

There will be a £20 registration fee per person, and teams are asked to raise £125 per person in fundraising, or £1,000 per team.

The venue for the event has not been decided yet, but the charity is currently in discussions to settle on one somewhere in Renfrewshire.

Founded in 1982, Accord provides Renfrewshire and areas of East Renfrewshire with highquality specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

It operates from its base in Hawkhead Road, which has just undergone a £ 1 million refurbishment, and also cares for people in their own homes.

Bosses add that none of this is possible without the ongoing support of individuals, local groups and businesses.

Accord is one of the most popular charities in Renfrewshire and receives a huge financial boost from individuals and groups every year.

As well as taking part in events organised by the hospice, people also organise their own, ranging from everything from sponsored runs to firewalks.
