Detectives are hunting an unhinged thug who left a man almost blind in one eye in an unprovoked street attack.

Medics have told the 28- year- old victim he will have just 15 per cent sight in the eye after he was randomly chased down and struck in the face with

a weapon.

The shocking incident happened in Netherhill Road, Paisley.

It is understood the victim was heading for work around 3.30am when he was approached by the mindless attacker.

The brute started shouting at the man before chasing him through a garden and launching the vicious assault.

Police say the victim then called members of his family who rushed him to the town’s Royal Alexandra Hospital where medics desperately tried to save his sight.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, and say they received a call a short time after the incident to say a man had been seen with a knife in the street during a rammy.

They say the report may hold the key to identifying who was behind the senseless beating in the Gallowhill area of town.

Detective sergeant Alex Allardyce, from Paisley CID, said: “We are investigating the serious assault of a 28 year-old male in Netherhill Road.

“The victim was approached by an unknown male as he walked to work.

“The male then began shouting and chased the victim in to a nearby garden where he struck him to the head with a weapon.

“The victim sustained a serious eye injury during the incident and was taken to hospital by family members.”

A second incident was reported to cops a short time later, which detectives say could prove vital in the investigation.

DS Allardyce added:“At around 3.50am the same morning, police received a call from someone saying there had been a disturbance in the same street involving a male who was seen with a knife.

“I would ask that person to re- contact police. I would also like to appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything to please get in touch.”

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man is expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today in connection with claims he seriously assaulted two men, aged 34 and 30, during a separate incident in Paisley.

The older man sustained a broken arm during the incident, which allegedly happened in Argyle Street at around 7pm on Friday night. The 30-year-old suffered facial injuries and was also treated in hospital

Police have also appealed for witnesses to to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “If you witnessed the incident in Argyle Street, Paisley on Friday night then we would urge you to come forward to speak with officers.
