Volunteers wanted for charity service

-

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland have launched a plea for volunteers.

The charity is currently looking for a rehabilitation support service travelling assistant to provide support to people who have had strokes return home from hospital.

The volunteers would become an integral part of their transition from hospital to home by helping them to relearn or adapt skills so that they can be as independent as possible.

Volunteering roles take place either in hospital, home or community setting.

The aim of the service is to assist people in overcoming or coping with the damage caused by a stroke so that they can focus on enjoying life again.

Services provide communication assistance for people who are finding it difficult to speak, read, write, memory, thinking or understand what other people are saying.

They aim to provide a welcoming and stimulating environment which supports and promotes communication and encourages social interaction, enabling people to improve their quality of life, build confidence and self-esteem, and return to their communities with ease.

No special qualifications are required but volunteers are expect to offer commitment, attend training and have a desire to support people who have had a stroke.

Benefits of the role include interaction with service users and learning new skills.

Once fully trained, you will accompany a matched service user for a specified limit of time to travel from their home to one of their delivered services, and returning home thereafter.

It is worth noting that this will include supporting wheelchair users, using SPT MyBus door to door service and making sure they receive planned support and assistance on a weekly basis.
