Health board is on top award shortlist

-

Paisley’s health board has been shortlisted in awards that recognise healthy and active workplaces.

NHS Great Glasgow & Clyde is up for the The Glasgow Business Award for Healthy and Active Workplace.

This celebrates and rewards businesses that have taken steps to empower employees to be active and healthy in the workplace environment.

Anne MacPherson, NHSGGC’s director of Human Resources and Organisational Development said: “We are very proud of our Active Staff scheme and delighted to be shortlisted for this exciting award.

“Each week we hold 32 structured activity classes for staff across ten sites, which are free to join in . Twice a year we also hold walking challenges within Active Staff where our employees can challenge other teams to walk their socks off within a four to six-week period.

“Not only does this encourage our staff to be active, but also helps team building, as well as some healthy rivalry between teams when it comes to comparing their daily steps.”

NHSGGC also encourages staff to cycle and walk to work where possible and has invested heavily in facilities to make this possible.

The board says it has improved on-site facilities for staff including secure storage, showering and locker facilities, designated routes, footpaths and lighting at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital alone.

All hospital sites also now have bike parking facilities as well as shower/changing facilities.

The Board was one of the first employers in Scotland to introduce the daily mile challenge.

Ms MacPherson added: “. Our Active Staff scheme has become central of many people’s weekly routine and we hope it can continue to go from strength to strength in coming years.”

The Glasgow Business Awards will be held in the Glasgow Hilton on Thursday, October 4.
