Brute was ‘too upset’ for social worker meeting

-

A bully who battered his girlfriend claimed he was too upset to comply with a court order.

Peter Cameron, 30, was told to meet with social workers after he pummelled Natasha Robinson during a row at his flat.

But he didn’t turn up at the appointment twice after claiming he could not find the office and then that he was grieving because his pal had died.

Cameron was locked up until experts can complete reports on his background at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Defence lawyer James Arrol claimed his client had intended to take part in interview sessions.

He said: “The offices seem to have moved. He seems to have been absolutely confused by this on the first occasion. He attended here and was given directions.

“He was then informed his friend, who had been missing, had been found and had died. He completely lost his bearings. He’s fully aware he needs to attend for reports.

“It clearly doesn’t look good for him.”

Cameron attacked his partner at a flat in Lomond Gardens, Elderslie.

He repeatedly punched her on the head and choked her after grabbing her by the neck on May 27 last year.

The yob was ordered to meet with social workers to complete a pre-sentencing report. The paper gives the court information on the offender’s life.

It is used to determine what punishment should be meted down.

Cameron claimed he was on his way to the meeting when he was informed about the death of Paisley father-oftwo Kevin Bishop.

Kevin, 32, had been reported missing by his family on August 4, sparking a major search by the police.

Tragically, his remains were discovered at a flat in Gallowhill, Paisley, last week.

A 46- year- old man has appeared in court in connection with Kevin’s death.

Sheriff David Pender offered sympathies but insisted justice must be done.

He said: “If the person who died is a friend of yours, you have my condolences.

“This is not the first time there has been a delay in this case.

“You will be remanded in custody and that way I can be assured the reports will be ready.”
