Callen is boxing clever with sponsors

Young sportsman lands knockout deal with firm

- Craig Ritchie

Paisley boxer Callen McAulay has landed a knockout deal after extending his sponsorship with Instyle Kitchens and Bathrooms.

The 20- year- old professional has teamed up once again with the Greenock Road business which will see them back the promising scrapper with a Instyle Scholarship for Sport and Education for another year.

Instyle team manager Gail Green was on hand to confirm the pair’s latest deal – and even sneaked in a jab on Callen’s jaw.

But there were no hard feelings as Callen thanked the business for continuing their long- term support which dates back over a decade.

Callen said: “Instyle have been there for me since day one and none of my success and progress would be possible without their help.

“Without their backing and financial support I would have to chose between boxing and working.

“I am still studying at university so it would not be possible for me to combine all three without the help of Instyle.

“I really can’t thank them enough for their support.

“They have constantly been by my side throughout my path from basically just a kid to now being a professional boxer.

“Boxing isn’t cheap, there is equipment, travel expenses.

“Just the backing in itself is incredibly important for a young boxer.

“InStyle have done everything they can to help and I will be forever grateful to them for that.

“A lot of guys my age, when at university, have to go out and get jobs and work, but the sponsorship mean that I am able to focus on boxing and my studies.

“Without them I wouldn’t be where I am and I am delighted that they have agreed to continue their support.”

Callen enjoys a rising reputation in the ring as he currently boasts an unbeaten record of four wins in his first four bouts.

He returns to action when he takes centre stage against English boxer Rick Rose at The Lagoon, in Paisley, on October 6 for his firstever six-round bout.

And he revealed he is looking forward to getting back to action for his first bout since defeating Reynaldo Mora in April.

He said: “It is brilliant to be back boxing in Paisley again and it will be a real family affair.

“Instyle will take a table, but I will have a lot of my mates there and my family too.

“We are currently in the middle of training but everything is shaping up well and it should be a fantastic night.”
