New figures show house prices are on the rise

-

Punters in Paisley are safe as houses with prices rising by more than £5,000 in the last year, new figures show.

The average price tag on a house in Renfrewshire has risen to £125,675 by the end of July, compared to £ 120,341 in the same month of last year.

The latest data released by Registers of Scotland (ROS) show Buddies trousered a 4.4 per cent increase, worth a cool £5,334 to each family.

And Renfrewshire folk are doing better than those in many other local authority areas, as well as trumping the national price increase of only 3.2 per cent.

However, the number of houses being sold in the Paisley area has dropped when compared to the same period of last year.

Renfrewshire recorded only 311 property sales by the end of May 2018, down from 348 in the April of the previous year, marking a slowdown of 10.6 per cent.

Register bosses said it takes up to eight weeks for a sale to be registered, so data published reflects the latest available records.

The downturn in sales is also affecting properties throughout the rest of Scotland, with the total number falling by 6.3 per cent on the same period of last year.

East Renfrewshire witnessed a 2.8 per cent increase in house prices, with the average home valued at £ 225,225, up from £219,066.

Glasgow saw a 6.7 per cent bump, with property prices rising to £132,454 from £124,111.

Homeowners living in Inverclyde witnessed the average price rise to £ 107,863 from £104,054, an increase of 3.7 per cent.

However, the biggest property losers are living in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and East Ayrshire, where average prices fell by 4.4 per cent to £159,328, 3.7 per cent to £188,835 and 2.3 per cent to £95,325 respectively.

The average price of a property in Scotland in July 2018 came in at £152,245.
