St Mirren make short work of Boroughmuir

- Basketball

A day out in the capital saw St Mirren Under-18s turn in an impressive display as they tore apart a ragged Boroughmuir Blaze 102-57.

After the first few minutes of yoyo action, St Mirren took the game by the neck to bang in 22 points.

With coach Liam Stevenson continuing to rotate the bench, it was free scoring for all in the first quarter, with six points coming from Brad Low and four from Aiden Lamos, one of which saw a smart pass out from Ben Mitchell outfox the Blaze defence.

The second quarter saw a similar pattern. Blaze could not put the St Mirren defence under any real pressure and that resulted in a catelogue of unforced errors.

Baskets finally came when Lamos was fouled on the three-point line and made good all his free throws from the resulting foul.

Robbie Stevenson also found his range and popped in two three-pointers with four more from Louis McLean and Gregg Merrill. The game was becoming a one-sided affair.

Leading 48 -23 from the second quarter, St Mirren took advantage of the open space afforded to them to take complete control in the third quarter.

Playing as good as they have all year, the team were solid in defence and lethal in attack with Stevenson slamming in 13 more points as the quarter ended 76-37.

The Saints could have taken the foot off the gas in the fourth quarter but there was no let up as the Blaze were ruthlessly put to the sword.

The crowd sensed St Mirren wanted the century and they duly delivered when Low laid up with a minute to spare. A devastating display from St Mirren and well-deserved victory.
