- David Campbell

Cruel crooks stole sentimental jewellery from a 91-year-old woman after sneaking into her house.

The vulnerable pensioner discovered broaches, rings and necklaces worth around £1,000 had been taken during the raid at her home in McLean Place in Paisley.

Callous thieves targeted the elderly woman’s house between 10am and 11am on Saturday, September 29, but the crime was only reported to cops this week.

It’s understood the suspects uncovered her collection of jewellery in a box which they emptied during the incident.

O f f i c e r s p robing the Shortroods theft have now appealed for witnesses to come forward as they look to trace culprits.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley community policing team said: “A 91-year-old woman was the victim of a sneak-in theft in McLean Place in the Shortroods area of Paisley last Saturday.

“A number of items of jewellery, which have a high sentimental value to the complainer were stolen during the incident, which we believe happened between 10am and 11am on Saturday, September 29.

“This is clearly a despicable act, preying on a vulnerable member of our community. I would urge anyone who may have seen anything at all suspicious in the area to please get in touch with officers here in Paisley.”

Meanwhile officers in the town are investigating a separate theft of cash from a pensioner.

A 67- year- old man has reported a four figure sum of cash has been taken from his home in Netherhill Crescent, in the Gallowhill area, over the last few weeks by a suspect female visitor.

It is understood she attended his house on a number of occasions over several week, each time taking more cash.

She is described as tall, skinny and blonde.

Again cops are asking anyone who may have information on the theft to contact them.

If you have any information on either incident, contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
