SPOT THE W
Thank you event hails the 700 who teamed up to clean up
The super successful Spotless September in Renfrewshire’s programme of neighbourhood clean-ups had some real winners.
Hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves to make their communities and schools much tidier.
Houston Litter Crew, St Catherine’s Primary, in Paisley, and St James’ Primary, in Renfrew, were among groups who got involved – with 700 volunteers gathering 280 bags of rubbish with support from Renfrewshire Council’s Team Up To Clean Up campaign.
There was a thank you event at Paisley Town Hall to make sure everyone knew their efforts were appreciated.
Groups were awarded certificates of appreciation as they gave short presentations on why they took part.
Jake Fulton, from Houston Litter Crew, said: “We were delighted to have taken part in the Spotless September challenge.
“Litter picking is such a worthwhile thing to do in support of our community and to be part of a Renfrewshire-wide event makes it all the more meaningful and special.
“Team Up to Clean Up is a wonderful initiative, which mobilises and assists communities to improve their environment.
“It creates a sense of momentum, it brings communities together and it allows new friendships to form.”
Other organisations who got involved included Bargarran Primary in Erskine, Paisley’s Heriot Primary, a group at Barshaw Park and Pals of the Privies – a sub-group of Ferguslie Community Council dedicated to looking after Glencoats Park.
Karen Campbell, from Pals of the Privies, said: “We have come a long way in such a short space of time as part of the Team Up to Clean Up campaign.
“Over the last eight months, our community has started to become the Ferguslie we all know best, so thank to my community for supporting us to Team Up to Clean Up.”
