Farmer’s Boys trounced by rampaging Kilsyth

- Kilsyth .................. 6 Neilston ................ 1

Neilston fell to a shock drubbing at the hands of high-flying Kilsyth as their poor league form continued.

The Farmer’s Boys remain without a league win in their previous five outings, with their last win coming against Craigmark at the end of August.

Kilsyth were the better side throughout but it took them 20 minutes to finally open the scoring.

A free- kick into the Neilston box was not properly cleared and eventually fell to Danny Smith to curl home an unstoppable strike beyond keeper Marc Wilson.

Neilston looked to fightback and showed flashes of danger in front of goal but lacked the finishing touch required.

But they shot themselves in the foot on the stroke of half-time when Wilson failed to hold a shot to allow Kouider Aissa to scramble the rebound into the back of the net to give the hosts a two- goal advantage at the break. The Farmer’s Boys started the second half well but again struggled to offer much up front with last-season’s top goalscorer Paul Stewart on the bench.

Kouider Aissa broke up the field and almost made it 3-0 with a flick over Wilson but the ball sailed off target.

However, a minute later Rangers did hammer home their advantage when Scott Upton nodded in a long pass into the bottom corner.

He then made it two goals in two minutes with another strike following some fine build up play that left the Neilston defence scrambling.

Neilston did manage to pull one back when Stewart, making his appearance as a substitute, netted from close range.

But within a matter of seconds Kouider Aissa got his second straight from the restart to restore his side’s four-goal advantage.

Upton completed his hat-trick late on to make it 6-1 to put a cap on a sorry afternoon for John-Paul Dow and Martin Campbell’s men.
