Spree scooter rally set to be Mod-ness

Spectacular ride-out will raise cash for good causes

- Chris Taylor

Sharply- dressed scooter riders will roll into town as part of The Spree festival.

Modstuff is hosting the rally with around 70 enthusiasts taking part.

The event celebrates all things Mod and Northern Soul and will takeover the Spiegeltent.

Organiser Gary Kerr, of LNP Promotions, says the party will raise cash for charity.

He said: “We are delighted to be bringing Modstuff back to The Spree once again – the event grows in popularity every year.

“The evening show sold out weeks ago but we would encourage people to come down for the afternoon and enjoy the free show and the spectacle of the scooter ride-out.

“People will be travelling from across Scotland to take part.

“We are delighted to be raising funds for a great cause in Renfrewshire Carers Centre.”

Modstuff gets underway at in County Square on October 20.

The annual festival-within-afestival will boast all-day musical entertainment around the afternoon rally.

This ride- out is run in partnership with Paisley Vespa Club and is raising funds for needy families.

Spiegeltent shows will feature Lemon Soul, START! and Dexy’s Tribute Band, and a sold- out evening show with Absolute Jam, Les BOF! and The Signatures.

Burger & Keg has sponsored the event and will host DJ nights, including the ModStuff aftershow bash.

Bar bosses will hand out prizes for the best scooters, including furthest- travelled and bestdressed.

Trevor Mills, owner of Burger & Keg, hailed organisers for all their work and added: “Modstuff weekend is one of the highlights in the Paisley calendar and we are excited to be working alongside LNP.

“They have done a fantastic job growing this event with the help of the very supportive and thriving mod scene.

“We have been granted a late licence over Spree weekends and will have our own DJ playing classic sounds on Friday and Sunday.

“We will also be hosting NNE’s Strictly Vinyl ModStuff playing the music as it was originally intended on the old 45s.”

The Spree festival is run by Renfrewshire Council and is now in its seventh year.

Acts appearing this year include Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, London African Gospel Choir, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, The Orb, Gang of Four and Kraftwerk founder Wolfgang Flür.

Supergroup Big Minds will also play, as will The Wandering Hearts, Tracyanne & Danny, The Pastels, Vieux Farka Touré, The Leisure Society and Duke Special.

Former Scottish Album of the Year winners Aidan Moffat and RM Hubbert will team-up, with performances by Gillebrìde MacMillan, Des Clarke, Janey Goldey and Stuart Mitchell.
