Get set for a song and dance spectacular

Footloose the Musical is not to be missed

- Alison Rennie

Talented Paisley residents are preparing to ‘cut loose’ as they take to the stage in a popular musical next month.

Leo Reilly, Colin Fyfe, Andrew Scott, Jordan Findlay and April Huisman will be joining almost 40 performers from the Minerva Club as they stage Footloose the Musical.

Based on the hit 1980s film starring Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker, the show sees city boy Ren who is forced to move to a small mid- western town and discovers it is illegal to dance or even listen to rock music there.

With the help of his new friend Willard Hewitt and defiant teen Ariel Moore, he tries to loosen up the conservative town where the formidable Reverend Moore is determined to keep things the way they are.

Colin, a 29-year-old teacher from Renfrew, plays Bickle who is Ren’s friend and has been a Minerva member on and off for 18 years.

He said: “This will be the first time that my brother Gary and I have shared a stage in 12 years without our dad. Minerva is such a friendly and supportive club that makes everyone feel at home.”

Another Minerva member Andrew, 25, from Renfrew will be adopting several personalities during each performance by playing the roles of Cowboy Bob and Lyle, a high school student.

He said: “I’m excited to be back on stage performing after almost two years. This is a great show and I can’t wait to take part and show off my dancing skills.”

Minerva Club President, Colette Dunsmore, said: “Many people will remember the film Footloose and we’re delighted to be bringing it to the stage. It’s a show that’s full of fun and memorable songs which weave the plot together at breakneck speed.

“I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this multilayered and emotional production.”

The show is on at Eastwood Theatre from Tuesday, November 13 until Saturday, November 17.

Tickets cost £13 to £18 and are available from any cast member, by emailing tickets@theminervaclub. com or online at ticketsource. co.uk/theminervaclub.

The Minerva Club will be supporting the charity Calums Cabin with its 2018 production of Footloose.

Calums Cabin is a holiday retreat on the Isle of Bute where children suffering from cancer can come with their families to spend quality time together and make irreplaceable memories.
