Coun­cil leader’s cash vow

There are no plans to pull fi­nan­cial sup­port for East Ren­frew­shire’s Cul­ture and Leisure Trust (ERCLT).

The prom­ise was made by coun­cil leader Tony Buchanan, who ad­mit­ted he is happy for the lo­cal au­thor­ity to pro­vide an ope­nended line of credit to the trust un­til at least Septem­ber next year.

Coun­cil­lors handed over £ 225,000 to cover a huge over­spend by the trust ear­lier this year.

Two let­ters of com­fort promis­ing on­go­ing sup­port to en­sure the or­gan­i­sa­tion could con­tinue op­er­at­ing have also been writ­ten by coun­cil chiefs.

That hap­pened de­spite it be­ing re­vealed that the trust’s chief ex­ec­u­tive An­thony McReavy got a bumper pay rise, which saw his salary go from £65,099 to £73,814.
