Referee was right to award a penalty, says goal-den boy Simeon

- Craig Ritchie

Simeon Jackson shot down Jim McIntyre’s claims that he went down easy for a penalty – insisting Saints should have had even more.

The Dundee manager was disappointed to see a spot- kick awarded against his Dundee side on Saturday after the Canadian striker was pulled down by Cammy Kerr.

However, Jackson, who netted the resulting penalty, failed to see McIntyre’s side of the story before going on to claim the Buddies could have had another two penalties after late shouts from Danny Mullen and Paul McGinn were denied.

Jackson said: “It was 100 per cent a penalty. I felt like I got myself in the right position, only for their boy to push me in the back.

“There were a few shouts for a few other penalties but we will take the ones that we are given.

“Their manager is standing somewhere else and will see it from his perspective. “But it was a definite penalty. “It was a well-worked move and Adam’s flair and creativity works out and gets us on the scoresheet.

“I think we should have had another one as well. Danny’s marker is all over him. I felt we could even have had a third one when Paul is pulled over but at the end of the day a draw was a fair result.”

Jackson was later booked for diving inside the box as St Mirren cranked up the pressure but he admitted he had no complaints.

He added: “He has dangled a leg out but to be fair he didn’t catch me.

“I got up as quick as I could but at the end of the day it is still simulation according to the referee. If you are asking me it is harsh to give a yellow card.”

Jackson’s second goal of the season already ties him as the club’s equal top scorer with Mullen.

And following more cohesion in the forward ranks, he reckons there are yet more goals to come from his side.

Jackson added: “For such a big game it was great to get on the scoresheet. It is good to get a point but I would have loved to have taken three.

“We are scrapping in there but we need to just keep fighting and keep going.

“I think we have progressed. Saturday was the 90- minute performance that we needed, whereas last week we only performed for 80 minutes.

“We are building and hopefully turning a corner ahead of the international break.

“We are working hard and getting used to playing alongside one another. We need to keep creating chances.”
