She donates her hair to charity
An eight-year-old has sent her own hair to a charity that makes wigs for people who have been struck by illness.
Brooke Wilson, from Foxbar in Paisley, had hair right down to her waist – but when she read about the Little Princess Trust she knew she wanted to get it cut and send it off to the charity.
Mum Danielle, 30, said: “Brooke had been wanting to get her hair cut for a while and I had given her options about what she would do.
“Then she saw the Little Princess Trust on television and she was really interested in sending her hair off for someone who doesn’t have hair due to illnesses.
“Once she got it cut she was delighted.
“She now has two ponytail cutoffs.
“She’s had her hair that long since she was about four, and she’s only ever had trims before but she decided it was time now to chop it.
“The hair r gets sent in a padded envelope to China, where the wig is made and then it gets sent back to the charity.”
Brooke’s hair, which was cut at the James Martin salon, in Paisley, has now been sent to the charity for processing.
And the thoughtful youngster’s school friends at Langcraigs Primary gave their full support to her efforts for the Princess Trust.
“They knew she was doing it,” Danielle said.
“The headteacher was very pleased with her.
“She was up in front of the assembly at one point telling them what she was going to do.”
And not only did Brooke hand over her hair, she also set up a fundraising drive for the charity.
“She’s raised over £650,” Danielle said.
“She set up a Just Giving page and she’s also got aroud £70 in cash to send. “So she’s raised quite a lot. “She had a target of £100, so she’s really happy with what she raised.”
The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24, who have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.
