Drivers warned of M8 delays

-

Drivers are being warned to expect “severe” delays when resurfacing works take place on a busy stretch of motorway next week.

As part of Transport S c o t l a n d’s s t rat e g i c trunk road maintenance programme, a 1.2km stretch of the M898 southbound between the Erskine Bridge and M8 motorway will be fixed.

Roads bosses say in order for the £ 400,000 project to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible, the section of road will have to be closed from 8pm on Friday, November 30, until 6am on Monday, December 3.

James McLean, from Scotland TranServ, said: “This is an important trunk road connecting a number of communities with Glasgow and the central belt.

“In order to keep disruption to a minimum for the 40,000 commuters and freight drivers using the route every weekday, we’re proposing to carry out work over the weekend.

“To complete such an extensive resurfacing p r o g ramme, w h i l e minimising the impact, we will require the full weekend.”

There will be a diversion route in place and drivers are urged to consider alternative transport plans.

Severe delays of around two hours are expected to affect the A82 southbound.

The A726, M8 at St James’ Interchange and the surrounding communities of Bishopton, Inchinnan, Renfrew and Erskine are also expected to be extremely congested. M898 northbound traffic will not be affected by the works
