Fitzpatrick: Saints have turned a corner
Tony hails recent displays
St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick believes the club is back in its groove after a period of early season uncertainty – and some top performances are on the way.
The Saints supremo admits a tumultuous start to the season under Alan Stubbs has left the side playing catch-up but the signs are there that things are moving in the right direction.
A draw at fellow strugglers Dundee two weeks ago has given Oran Kearney’s side a springboard and Fitzpatrick says it’s time to turn good performances into results.
He said: “It has been very difficult but we knew that.
“The Premiership is a different standard and we knew it was going to be difficult – even if Jack Ross stayed.
“There has been a lot of upheaval so it has been difficult for the players and everyone at the club.
“But I think things are settling down now and we are seeing improvements in performances, although we have not got the results.”
A morale- boosting victory against high-flying Craig Levein’s injury-ravaged Hearts on Saturday would be the ideal place to start and Fitzpatrick insists home advantage could prove pivotal.
He added: “Things are looking good for us at home.
“I look at the Hibs game where we got beat 1-0 and we should have taken something out of that game. The Kilmarnock game was one that slipped away from us.”
Fitzpatrick was delighted with the response from his players shown in the bottom-of-the-table tussle at Dundee.
He added: “The last game up at Dundee was a big, big game for the players. What pleased me was we went in front but when Dundee scored we showed a real strength in character.
“Their crowd got them going but we stood up to it and we actually became the better side in the second half. We could have actually won the match.”
Meanwhile, on- loan Aussie midfielder Ryan Edwards will be ineligible for this weekend’s clash against parent club Hearts.
