Marchers will walk through Paisley to reclaim the night
Marchers are taking to the street tomorrow to demand an end to violence against women.
Hundreds are expected to join the Reclaim the Night procession through Paisley town centre.
Provost Lorraine Cameron will lay a white ribbon wreath and lead a two-minute silence for those affected.
She said: “The Reclaim the Night march brings this important issue to the forefront of people’s minds.
“It helps to raise awareness and gives people a chance to discuss their own experiences in a safe space with likeminded people.
“This year’s march is linked with EventScotland’s Year of Young People.
“It will highlight how domestic abuse can affect our younger generations.
“I hope this will also enable our young people to see the support that is available to them.
“I would encourage both men and women in Renfrewshire to come together again this year.”
The procession will form outside the University of the West of Scotland.
It will make its way through the streets before stopping at Dunn Square. Campaigners will hear speeches from MP Gavin Newlands.
He is a White Ribbon Scotland ambassador and has called for an end to gender-based attacks and sexual violence.
Councillor Michelle Campbell, Renfrewshire’s Year of Young People Champion, will also address the crowd.
The march will then continue to Paisley Town Hall for refreshments and discussions.
Experts warn young people experience the highest rates of domestic abuse of any age group.
Volunteers of all ages and genders are invited to join in and show their support as part of the wider international 16 Days of Action campaign.
This runs from Sunday and aims to bring awareness to the forefront across the globe.
Marchers should meet at the university campus tomorrow on High Street for 6pm. No sign up or registration is required.
Anyone suffering from domestic violence can get help via two national helplines, which are available 24 hours a day and are free to call from a landline.
