Jackson praises goal ace Hammill

- Craig Ritchie

Every St Mirren fan watched in awe as Adam Hammill thundered home a 40- yard belter to give St Mirren that long-awaited winning feeling.

But for strike partner Simeon Jackson, it was nothing he hasn’t seen before.

Hammill stepped up to the plate as he delivered a virtuoso performance to fire Saints’ two strikes in their win over Hearts.

The three points mark the Buddies first victory since the opening league game of the season to catapult them to within two points of tenth-placed Hamilton Accies.

However, despite Hammill becoming an overnight internet sensation for his stunning strike, his former Barnsley teammate Jackson insists there is very little his sidekick can do to surprise him.

Jackson laughed: “Adam is one of those players who is trying new things in training all the time.

“What a finish it was, and even the second one was a great strike.

“I would like to think me being here helped to attract Adam - we had a short stint at Barnsley together.

“When I saw him come in the door I was buzzing because I know what he can bring.

“I knew what he was capable of because he has been doing it for years and long may that continue here.

“He is piling the pressure on me now that he has a few goals. He is in that position because he is being creative and that showed with the goals on Saturday.”

The win over the Jambos was Jackson’s first in Saints colours having only signed for the Buddies on a free in September.

The Canadian international admits it has been a tough few months, with very little to celebrate on a Saturday night.

But having now tasted a little bit of success, Jackson insists he is hungry for even more.

He added: “It has been a while coming and it is good to finally get that win. Our performances have been gradually getting better and now we have got a deserved win.

“Losing just ruins your weekend. It affects everything really but you just have to keep going.

“When you have results like you do on Saturday then you enjoy it. But come Monday morning we just have to go again.

“When you get beaten it stays in your head. You replay certain things and you go over the match.

“When you do get the win then it eases off the pressure a little bit.” Hearts boss Craig Levein insists Saints midfielder Kyle Magennis should have seen red as his Jambos fell to defeat.

Magennis was booked in the first half for a late challenge on full back Michael Smith. The Northern Irishman required treatment following the clash, while Craig Thomson warranted the foul deserved only a yellow.

But a disappointed Levein reckoned that Magennis could have been ordered off by the officials.

He said:“I thought it was a bad foul. I thought he had gone over the top of the ball.

“It should have been a sending off.”
