Uni says hello to new dean
Paisley’s uni has appointed Professor Carl Schaschke as its new dean of the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences.
The professor comes to UWS from Abertay University, in Dundee, where he held the position of Head of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology.
With more than 12 years of experience in academic leadership roles, he also previously held the position of head of department of chemical and process engineering at the University of Strathclyde.
A member of the Enterprise Board and Board of Directors at Dundee Science Centre, he is a board member for the Education and Accreditation Forum of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
A chartered engineer and chartered scientist, he is also actively involved in professional accreditation worldwide and acts as an external examiner for both Aberdeen and Manchester universities.
The professor is the author of five books, including the Dictionary of Chemical Engineering.
He said: “I’m honoured to be joining such an inspiring and forward- thinking institution and I look forward to meeting and working with colleagues and students across the university.
“The disciplines of computing, engineering and physical sciences only continue to grow in importance to our daily lives.
“I look forward to leading the school and working to further strengthen the university’s ties with industry, enabling colleagues and students to continue to make a positive, lasting and demonstrable impact on society.”
