SWEAT OVER MCGINN

Boss Kearney will seek advice from medical team ahead of Dons clash

-

St Mirren will take no risks over the fitness of Paul McGinn as the defender remains a doubt for tomorrow’s visit of Aberdeen.

A question mark hangs in the balance over whether the 28-yearold will feature against the Dons after he was forced off following a clash of heads with Craig Halkett in last weekend’s defeat to Livingston.

The former Partick Thistle and Dundee man received lengthy treatment on the field before he was helped off the pitch.

Saints boss Oran Kearney confirmed that McGinn has returned to training ahead of the game but admits it will be up to the club’s medical staff to determine whether or not it will be safe for him to play.

Kearney said: “He is one of the players that we just need to monitor at this moment in time.

“He trained today but we need to monitor him day by day.

“There is a protocol that we need to follow before he returns to the side. We have to follow the medical staff, he will be in their hands more than anything else.

“It is not the sort of thing where if there was an issue, even with the predicament that we are in at this moment in time, where I would be prepared to risk anyone’s health”

If missing, McGinn would join an already lengthy injury list that includes long-term casualty Gary MacKenzie.

Kyle Magennis and Danny Mullen were also added to the list at the end of last week after picking up knocks in the recent 2-2 draw against Hibs at Easter Road.

And Kearney admits preparation hasn’t been ideal as he continues to juggle a number of injury woes.

He added: “Kyle and Danny being missing is not ideal from our point of view.

“We have a couple of other ones that we have nursed through the week and will be touch and go if they are available at the weekend.

“It is quite bleak, those couple of recent injuries have been quite sore on the squad.”
