Kind workers snub party night to sleep out for charity

-

Workers at Forde Opticians decided to ditch the Christmas party this year in favour of a sleepover in Kelvingrove park.

All the staff from the Linwood branch decided to sign up for the Sleep in the Park event and raised more than £2,200 for the homeless.

The sleep out, which took place last weekend, aims to‘end homelessness in Scotland for good’.

Optometrist Gemma Hill described the experience as very‘humbling’.

She said:“It wasn’t impossible by any means but it was freezing cold.

“It was so uncomfortable and that’s with all the luxury things we had – sleeping bags and blow-up pillows, sleeping mats and as many hot drinks as we wanted during the night.

“It was extremely difficult to think people have to do that all the time without any choice.”

Gemma said her and her colleagues decided to go for the unconventional Christmas night out after the team failed to agree on which ‘fancy’place to go to for festive celebrations.

Gemma added:“One of our colleagues June said‘you should go and do Sleep in the Park’

“We knew everyone would get behind it and sign up straight away.

“I was really, really proud.”
