Thug had cannabis in shed where he beat kids

- EXPRESS REPORTER

An ex- boxer caged for battering youngsters has been caught growing hash in the shed where he beat them.

Christopher Doyle, 34, hid four cannabis plants in the hut at the end of his garden.

He was previously jailed for brutalising the children in the outbuilding – with the youngest aged less than a year.

The fiend admitted producing drugs during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Frankie Morgan told how he panicked and blabbed about the set- up to visiting cops. He said: “Police were at the home in relation to an unrelated matter. They had cause to speak with the accused.

“He said ‘Look, guys, I’ve got to be straight with you, it’s for personal use. It’s a few cannabis plants I have growing’.

“He told officers, ‘I have it for my health conditions – I make t cannabis oil’.

“The accused opened the front door to a shed and showed police witnesses what appeared to be a cannabis cultivation.”

Police visited the home in Ferguslie Park to quiz Doyle and wife Siobhan about another case.

They found a tray covered in cannabis buds, which had been cut from the four plants.

A hydroponics kit, heat lamps, lights and fans were also found stashed away.

Cops seized the haul shortly before 8am on September 28 last year.

Experts say the drugs were worth around £1,600.

Defence lawyer James Arrol claimed his client used the stash to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, autism, anxiety, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, asthma and fibromyalgia.

He said: “There is no suggestion this was for anything other than his own use.

“He suffers from fibromyalgia and a number of other conditions. His position is very simple, he is prescribed painkillers but describes them as ‘not touching’ the pain. A friend gave him cannabis oil, he tried it and he said he was pain-free for two-and-a-half days.

“As a consequence of that, he took the view he could use cannabis oil to aid in his pain and discomfort.

“He didn’t want to interact with drug dealers and tried growing his own cannabis.”

Doyle was locked up for 12 months last October after he was found guilty of battering four children at Paisley Sheriff Court.

He wore steel toecap boots to beat them after summoning them to the shed – dubbed his ‘domain’.

One boy was not even one when the violence started; another lad was only four and the two girls were aged just four and five.

The court heard he punched and kicked them on a daily basis.

Doyle admitted “skelping” the children during the trial – but denied abusing them.

He said: “The first rule of boxing is hit and don’t be hit.”

He even kicked one lad down a flight of stairs after hissing: “Have you got your parachute ready?”

Wife Siobhan, 29, admitted attacking the children.

She dodged a prison stint and was slapped with supervision and 180 hours of community service.

One lad was so badly bludgeoned a doctor revealed he had the most unexplained bruising she had ever seen.

All of the attacks took place between January 2010 and November 2014 at their home.

Doyle racked up another prison stint weeks after the trial when he was caught dangerous driving.

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner sent him down for another 80 days for the drugs rap after hearing he is due for release in April.

She said: “I’m prepared to deal with the matter today by imposing a sentence which will not interfere with you earliest date of liberation.”
