Man is spared jail following boozy row with grieving partner

- EXPRESS REPORTER

A grieving man lost the plot at his girlfriend after a boozy drinking session to mourn the loss of their child.

Ryan McLean, 22, lashed out at his partner when an argument erupted at her flat.

The clash was so heated neighbours called police fearing for her safety.

McLean admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Saud Ul-Hassan told how he kicked off after he was turfed out following the row.

He said: “The witness and the accused, at the time, were partners.

“They had been together for approximately six weeks.

“The offence took place at the home address of the witness.

“She was with the accused at the time and both were consuming alcohol.

“An argument ensued between both and the she asked him to leave.

“He was in the driveway and neighbours were aware of shouting and banging coming from the front of the property.

“They looked out and saw him shouting and banging on the door.

“They observed him attempt to lift a concrete slab and attempt to use it to force entry.

“But, because of its size, the accused was unable to lift the slab and, as such, fell to the ground.

“He approached the front door and continued to shout and kick at the door.”

McLean was asked to leave when the spat broke out on December 8.

He was thrown out the flat in Maple Drive. But he began ranting in the street outside.

He pled guilty to bawling and threatening to force his way in – then raining kicks and blows on the door.

Police arrived after the alarm was raised by neighbours around 7.30am.

Defence lawyer Rhona Lynch insisted her client was struggling to cope with the couple’s loss.

She said: “The complainer had suffered a miscarriage and both were upset by that.

“They both decided to blot out their emotions by overindulging in alcohol.

“They had been drinking all through the night.

“He was angry at being put out of the house at that time of the morning.”

The court heard McLean had previously been thrown out of his mum’s house for bad behaviour. Sheriff Lindsey Kooner spared him jail.

McLean, of Queens Road, Elderslie, was placed under supervision for 12 months and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
