Barrowlands is all set for another bumper year

-

Once again it’s going to be a massive year for one of the UK’s most iconic venues the Barrowlands.

Described last year by Richard Ashcroft as “the greataest venue in the world”, the old dance hall continues to attract top acts and thousands of hardy gig-goers.

And there are plenty of big- name artists and musicians set to rock out on the famous east end stage at the start of 2019.

At the end of this month, Leeds indierockers Kaiser Chiefs (who we featured in last week’s ticket) will get the crowd going with the likes of Oh My God and I Predict A Riot performing on January 24.

The following week, on February 2, Huey Morgan and the Fun Lovin’ Criminals turn back the clock to bring the hip-hop, rock, blues and R&B which propelled them to fame in the 1990s as the band break out hit tracks such as Scooby Snacks and King Of New York.

Then it’s time for some dance music with American DJ Steve Aoki bringing electro house tunes to the east of Glasgow, the veteran artist appearing on Friday February 15.

Next up, The Twilight Sad will bring a local flavour to proceedings on March 2, the Kilsyth post-punk rockers expected to fill out the old arena, playing popular songs such as There’s A Girl In The Corner, Last January and It Never Was The Same.

Alternative post- Britpop rockers Embrace are next on the bill, with the West Yorkshire band to appear at the Barrowlands on March 6 as part of their the Good Will Out 21st Anniversary Tour, their debut album release coming in 1998.

Later in the week, on March 9, Scots singer-songwriter KT Tunstall returns to Scotland for her 2019 UK tour. The gig comes on the back of her 2018 release Wax, a pop-indie-rock album which scored critical acclaim.

In the middle of March, on the 16th and 17th, Stiff Little Fingers will play to two sell- out shows, the 70s punkrockers celebrating St Patrick’s weekend in Glasgow with their UK Ignition tour, rolling back the years in front of a raucous crowd with the likes of Alternative Ulster, Suspect Device and Johnny Was.

Later in the year, the likes of The Zutons, Mott The Hoople, The Specials, UB40 and Midge Ure will also get the Barrowlands rocking once more. Another big 12 months beckons that’s for sure.
