Smash causes traffic chaos

-

A motorist escaped serious injury in Paisley yesterday – after crashing through a barrier.

The driver of a black Audi estate car lost control of the machine and went into roadside railings at the A761 route through Ferguslie.

The Paisley-bound driver pranged with the metal barrier adjacent to the roundabout at around 12.35pm while rounding the bend.

The accident sparked a major traffic snarl-up for motorists with queueing vehicles building up after police closed the road.

Cops said the driver was not injured in the smash and was able to leave the car unscathed after veering off the road into the fencing.

Officers were tasked with closing the road for more than an hour to have the vehicle uplifted for accident analysis.

They also had to make sure the carriageway was clear of debris before reopening the major artery through the town in time for the afternoon rush hour.

Police said a motorist has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged Road Traffic Act offence.
