St Mirren’s Community Trust has launched a free life- changing programme to help Buddies get fighting fit this new year.

Organisers of Football Fans in Training hope to sign up 20 men and 20 women to take part in the 13-week fitness and education course.

The programme, funded by the SPFL Trust and run by St Mirren’s charity arm with the help of specialist­s coaches, aims to tackle obesity and promote healthy living.

Gayle Brannigan, who heads the trust, is determined to make a difference to people’s lives.

She said: “The SPFL Trust’s course runs for 13 weeks and differs to the normal weight loss programmes out there, offering advice and practical ways to make changes to your lifestyle.

“The best part is St Mirren fans can sign up now for free.

“If you are a man or woman aged between 35 and 65 with a waist size of 38 inches or more, FFIT may be just the ticket to help you kick off your new year with a new you and healthier lifestyle.

“Every 90- minute session contains a different topic, which includes managing your alcohol consumptio­n, understand­ing food labels and balancing your diet.

“There is also a physical component to each session.

“This can be a gentle walk, a circuit session with our fully trained, friendly and motivation­al coaching staff or a game of football.

“FFIT is open to those who enjoy football and those who just want make positive changes to their health.

“You do not need to be a supporter of St Mirren to take part in the course and more importantl­y you will make friends and have great fun.”
