Alan raised the spirits of so many with his ability to strike a note

-

Millions of TV viewers saw comedian Jim Davidson’s smash-hit Christmas Eve show from Fortress Falklands.

But few of the armchair Buddies who tuned in realised that the man behind much of the concert’s music was from Paisley.

He was Alan Hamilton, a Glenburn man who had travelled the world to play with some of the top showbusiness names.

Ertha Kitt, Tina Turner, and Cockney funster Davidson were just a few of the stars he had backed on the keyboards.

But the Falklands show, we reported in January 1985, was a bit special.

His proud dad Hugh said: “It’s the first time his name has appeared at the top of the credits.

“It’s nice to see him get some recognition.”

Alan, 37, who lived in London, wrote music for the show and played with Jim Davidson’s band.

The Falklands concert, organised to raise the spirits of the troops, was part of the comic’s tour.

Hugh added: “Alan is playing with Jim on tour.

“My wife Cathy and I went down to see it recently and we really enjoyed it.

“Alan has played on Caribbean cruises, on the QE2 and in some of the top concert halls in the world.

“He has done well for himself.”
