It’s been fan-tastic, says Eckersley

Adam Eckersley has paid tribute to the St Mirren support as he prepares to move to pastures new.

The left-back agreed a loan deal with Forfar Athletic on Thursday evening, which will take him up until the end of his current Saints contract.

A member of the side that kept the Buddies from dropping to League One two seasons ago, before playing a pivotal role in winning the league last season, Eckersley has always been a firm fans favourite.

Eckersley said: “I have spent the last year going through a process of private reflection and re-evaluation feeling more and more drawn towards a life outside of professional football.

“Even though my time at St Mirren has featured some of the proudest moments in my career, with saving the club from relegation being one of my greatest achievements, it also became apparent to me during the course of last season that my priorities were changing.

“I would like to thank all the St Mirren fans for your loyalty and passion which kept me going.”
