Two taken to hospital after blazes at flats
Two people were taken to hospital after fires broke out at two Paisley flats over the weekend.
Firefighters tackled blazes in Lawn Street and Caledonia Street, with residents being evacuated into the streets in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services raced to Lawn Street in the early hours after a fire broke out in a third floor flat shortly before 6am.
Families had to flee their homes as firefighters tackled the flames.
One person, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital following the morning blaze.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 5.45am on Saturday, to reports of a flat fire in Paisley.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to the town’s Lawn Street, where crews were met by a fire impacting a third floor property.
“Firefighters led three people to safety, with one individual transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service before being transferred to hospital.
“A further three people selfevacuated prior to the arrival of crews and, having been assessed by ambulance staff, did not require further treatment.
“Crews extinguished the fire before leaving the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe.”
The road was closed off as firefighters tackled the blaze, with diversions put in place.
Hours later, fire crews rushed to a second fire at a top-floor flat in Caledonia Street after receiving the call shortly before noon, with four fire engines deployed.
A spokesman for SFRS added: “We received a call at 11.52am on Saturday morning to report a house fire. We mobilised four appliances and there was a casualty - they were removed to hospital for a precautionary check-up.”
Investigations are now underway, although there is nothing to indicate the two fires were linked.
