Taxi driver appeal as cops probe alleged sex attack

-

Detectives investigating an alleged sex attack are appealing for the public’s help in tracing a taxi driver.

Cops want to speak to a private hire driver who dropped off two men and two women in the High Calside area of Paisley in the early hours of Sunday, January 13.

Forensic officers sealed off a property in the street and removed several bags following a report of an alleged sex attack.

Yesterday, Detective Constable Grant Spy, of Renfrewshire CID, said: “I am keen to trace the man

driving the taxi as he may have information which can assist our ongoing enquiry.

“I would like to emphasise that this individual is not considered to be a suspect and is being sought as a witness only.

“Anyone with any knowledge of his identity should get in touch with me as soon as possible via 101.”

The taxi driver picked up two men and two women in the area of Bath Street and Hope Street in Glasgow city centre in a dark coloured Skoda Octavia taxi.

He then took them to Paisley and dropped the group off at an address in High Calside shortly after 3am.

The vehicle had a light bar attached to the roof.

The two men who were picked up are described as being black, aged in their early 20s and they spoke with North East English accents.

Both women are white and aged 18 years.

Detective Constable Spy added: “I am aware that one of the men sat in the front passenger seat of the taxi and the other man sat in the rear, directly behind the driver.

“The route from Glasgow to Paisley would have been via the M8, exiting at Arkleston.

“He would have driven into Paisley town centre via Renfrew Road, Mill Street, Gordon Street, Causeyside Street, Calside and then into High Calside.

“After dropping the people off at the address he left and went back to the motorway using the same route in reverse.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley CID via 101.”
