Ardent fundraiser Lesley goes the extra mile to raise more than £1k for Royalheart Greyhound
Royalheart Greyhound Rescue has received a major fundraising boost thanks to the incredible charity work of a devoted volunteer.
Lesley Roberts was given the award for being the charity’s biggest fundraiser, for the ninth year in a row, after raising over £1,000 for the dogs.
Lesley, who completed the Santa Dash to help drum up support and donations, has raised in excess of £10,000 for charities including Royalheart Greyhound Rescue and Johnstone Cat Rescue, who benefitted from £300 of donations raised by Lesley last year.
The hardy volunteer was presented with a trophy by Royalheart for her fantastic efforts, with finance minister Derek Mackay MSP, Tommy Armstrong – who has also raised hundreds of pounds for the charity throughout the years – and Abby Wood from the rescue team with dog Sasha, all in attendance to show their gratitude towards Lesley.
Speaking to the Express, Lesley said:“I like to raise money for organisations that I believe in, and the organisations that I have donated to over the years have been family charities, disabled kids groups, animal rescues and Clydeside action for Asbestos, as my dad died of mesothelioma and this was why I began to help out.
“I love the work Royalheart do, I love that animals are being saved and the money that’s been raised will help go towards vet bills.
“The charity is partnered with Pets At Home and our jointfundraising efforts will continue through this year too.”
A fundraising event was recently held at Morrisons at Anchor Mill, in Paisley, with Lesley adding at the time:“We raised an incredible £360 for the dogs and a woman purchased and gave us £100 worth of dog food, which was amazing.”
Royalheart Greyhound Rescue, based in Langbank, is a non-profit organisation, established in 2009, which aims to protect and promote sighthounds as pets.
