Linesman was wrong to chalk off McAllister ‘goal’, says Kearney

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren boss Oran Kearney has blasted Douglas Ross after claiming the official has cost his side twice this season.

The linesman controversially flagged Kyle McAllister offside as he raced through on goal with the score sitting at 2- 1 against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Images show that the winger, 20, was clearly onside as he latched on to Mihai Popescu’s pass over the Dons defence before lobbing the ball beyond Joe Lewis and into the back of the net.

That would have put the Buddies 3-1 to the good and on course for victory heading into the final 20 minutes. Instead, Aberdeen equalised through Sam Cosgrove late on as Kearney’s men had to make do with a draw.

The gaffer was dismayed with the decision after reviewing the footage this week and he reckons it is the second time Ross has been responsible for the Paisley side dropping points.

Ross previously incurred the wrath of St Miren having awarded Kilmarnock a controversial winner in their October win when there was no clear proof Aaron Tshibola’s header had crossed the line in a 2-1 defeat.

Kearney told Express Sport: “It is really small margins but we just seem to have had a few of those decisions going against us and it is very frustrating because it has cost us at times.

“You are not after a little bit of luck, you are just looking at people to call decisions correctly and do their job.

“That is the most disappointing aspect of it.

“When you look back at the still footage of the offside when Kyle is bombing through, which would have been a third goal and given us a hell of a chance of winning the points, then it is hugely disappointing.

“Kyle is on his side of the pitch and the linesman’s positioning is crazy in relation to where the ball and Kyle are. He is clearly onside.

“I wouldn’t say it is exclusive to going to these so- called bigger grounds because we have had it at home as well.

“We had it against Kilmarnock at home earlier in the season. They ‘scored’ but there was no way the linesman, who was the same one on Saturday, could have seen it.”
