Award honour for police youngsters
Young people who volunteer with Police Scotland across Renfrewshire have been presented with Saltire Awards at a special ceremony.
The Saltire Awards are the Scottish Government’s way of celebrating, recognising and rewarding the commitment, contribution and achievements of young volunteers in Scotland.
They were handed out to 19 youth volunteers and eight adult leader volunteers to mark the time they give to support officers on the beat across Renfrewshire.
Alan Niven, chief executive of Engage Renfrewshire, welcomed Provost Lorraine Cameron and Superintendent Derek Lang, along with proud family and friends of the youth volunteers and adult leaders, to the Saltire Award Ceremony.
Youth recruitment is overseen by Police Scotland Individual Group Coordinators and managed in Paisley by PC Audrey Paul, who is also an active member of Renfrewshire’s Volunteer Manager Forum.
PC Paul said: “The event was held to celebrate the achievements and personal individual triumphs of a fantastic group of young people who over the past year have shown dedication, resilience, commitment and knowledge in volunteering.
“The forum means I can keep my eye on the ball to ensure I am always aware of the best possible volunteering opportunities for the young people.”
Mr McNiven added: “I’m always delighted to be involved with Police Scotland’s Youth Volunteers event in Paisley.
“Every year I’m taken aback by the commitment and energy of all involved – the young volunteers and the adult support volunteers alike.
“They are a credit to themselves and the area.”
Young people aged from 12 to 25 are eligible for Saltire Awards.
