Star council workers celebrate award wins

- KENNETH SPEIRS

Council workers who go above and beyond have been celebrated at an annual awards bash.

The We Are East Ren Awards recognise dedicated staff who work tirelessly for residents.

More than 100 employees gat h e red to honour the achievements of colleagues from across the council and Health and Social Care Partnership.

Sadie McIsaac came top in the Putting People First category.

Judges hailed the pupil support assistant, who is based in St Luke’s High School, Barrhead, for her exceptional care for pupils, while undertaking every task with her characteristic good humour and commitment.

The Young Employee of the Year was James Toal, who works with Neighbourhood Services in the Cleansing Team.

The council says he has more than proven himself to be a dedicated employee, a valuable member of the team and he continues to surpass expectations with all of his achievements.

The Team of the Year went to the Money Advice and Rights team for the lifeline it offers residents of East Renfrewshire affected by poverty.

The team was commended for understanding that the effect of not having enough money extends into people’s health, home and enjoyment of life, and team members are hugely dedicated to making a difference.

The Unsung Hero was Claire Shaw in human resources.

She has been repeatedly recognised as an outstanding professional, who never draws attention to herself, yet does a fantastic job of going above and beyond to get the right conclusions and performance for council employees.

Leader of the Year went to Sarah Jane Hayes.

The customer ser v i c e s manager was praised for showing exceptional leadership over the past 12 months in her management of the Customer First, Money Advice and Rights and Digital Service Development teams, where she has set out a clear vision for employees to work towards.

The Chief Executive’s Award went to Lorna Adams, Creditors team manager.

She was recognised due to her “tireless efforts” towards the council vision of what her team needed to achieve over the last two years.

East Renfrewshire Council chief executive Lorraine McMillan said: “Congratulations to all our winners from the We Are East Ren Awards.

“It was wonderful to celebrate the amazing contribution made by so many of our staff and hear all the amazing stories about the work which goes on day in, day out to ensure our residents receive the best services possible.

“As our recognition scheme continues to grow in the years ahead, I hope that it will instil a sense of pride into our entire workforce — providing passionate and committed staff across the council and Health and Social Care Partnership.”
