Lout spat on cop as he was being arrested

Yob had threatened his mother and stepdad

- RON MOORE

A tanked-up yob spat on a cop after he was lifted during a domestic rammy.

Martin McLellan, 44, lost the plot and made threats of violence against his mum and his stepdad during the rampage.

The mayhem continued after he was removed from the house in Muirpark Avenue, Renfrew, and taken into custody when he assaulted a police officer by spitting on her.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards Catherine Dickson and her partner Ian.

McLellan, of Porterfield Road, Renfrew, also admitted assaulting PC Alison McLachlan by spitting on her during the incident on March 23.

Prosecutor Claire Rowan said the McLellan’s pleas of guilty were being accepted by the Crown.

She also produced a list of McLellan’s previous convictions.

Defence agent Tony Callahan asked the court to consider deferring sentence on McLellan as he was currently on a Community Payback Order (CPO) for an earlier offence.

He said: “There has been a CPO progress report from another matter and this showed he has completed the unpaid work element, but he is still remains subject to supervision by the local authority.

“I would ask the court defer sentencing him as there is another matter outstanding and would ask he be released on bail.”

Sheriff Lyndsey Kooner said she did not wish to hear the facts and circumstances of the case during the hearing.

However, said she would consider continuing matters and releasing him on bail.

Ms Rowan added that one of the conditions of bail would be that he does not drink alcohol at his parents’ address.

Sheriff Kooner told McLellan: “You will remain subject to supervision and I will release you on bail for you to be of good behaviour.

“It is important that observe that.” McLellan will discover his fate when he reappears for sentencing on July 23.

I will release you on bail for you to be of good behaviour
