KEARNEY: MY CONSCIENCE IS CLEAR

Departing Saints gaffer insists he’s got no regrets

-

Oran Kearney has vowed he leaves St Mirren with a “clear conscience” after the Buddies confirmed the gaffer’s departure.

The Saints finally brought the managerial saga to an end yesterday morning as they announced the Northern Irishman’s exit after just nine months in charge.

The former Coleraine manager’s time was up after a breakdown in the relationship between himself and Gordon Scott.

It is believed Kearney’s commuting between Paisley and his hometown of Ballymoney was at the centre of the rift between the pair.

But the outgoing boss insists he bids farewell to the club with his head held high.

Kearney told Express Sport: “You can’t have any regrets in life and I have no regrets with how I carried out the job.

“My conscience is clear and I believe I carried out the job to the best of my ability.

“My only regret is that I never got to lead the club into next season and put this plans that I had in place.

“I’m gutted but I believe I can leave with my head held high.

“I have to personally thank the supporters for being the rock behind me since the day that I arrived.

“They could have turned at any point during those early days and I don’t think anybody could have blamed them.

“I will be eternally grateful for the backing that they provided myself and the team during what was a difficult time.

“I’m really proud of everything that we achieved as a team.”

Kearney leaves St Mirren after guiding them to an improbable survival after safely navigating the relegation playoffs with a penalty shoot-out win over Dundee United.

And the Nor thern Irishman says the triumph was one of a number of highlights.

He added: “The playoff win over Dundee United will live with me forever, but there are lots of moments and a huge amount of milestones to be proud of. The way we went on that run and the way that we went about our business was second to none.”
