Drinkers warned over violence
Paisley’s top cop has issued a summer drink warning.
Chief Inspector Dougie Falconer, area commander for the town, says a number of alcohol-related incidents in recent weeks are completely unacceptable.
He has urged Buddies who are out enjoying the summer sunshine to drink responsibly and avoid getting involved in violence.
As barbecue season reaches its peak, Chief Inspector Falconer, pictured, insists he wants people to take advantage of the good weather and longer days.
He told the Paisley Daily Express: “Unfortunately, at this time of year, with the good summer weather, we often see an increase in alcohol-related violence.
“Over the last few weeks in Paisley, we have seen a number of incidents involving serious violence where alcohol consumption has played a significant part.
“I certainly don’t want to stop people enjoying the sunshine with friends and family, but I would urge that people to do so responsibly.
“A single moment of violence can have very serious consequences for the victim and, indeed, for the person responsible as they could very well lose their liberty.”
Chief Inspector Falconer has also warned motorists about the dangers of drink-driving.
He has also encouraged people to plan ahead and make sure they know how they are getting home from family gatherings, parties and barbecues.
Anyone with information about crime should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
