Local authority bosses say there is always a lot to do before the new school term starts, whether you are sending your child to school for the first time, or they are moving up a year.

People can claim a £ 100 clothing grant to help with school uniform costs if you’re eligible.

ParentPay is a cashless system that allows parents to pay for school lunches, trips and charity days without having to hunt for loose change each morning.

It is still being introduced in schools, so people should check if their school has it.

You can also apply for free school meals if you’re eligible.

Breakfast could also be an option at certain schools.

If your child lives more than a mile from their primary or two miles from their secondary school, they could be entitled to free transport.

Parent councils are also a good way to get information on what is happening at schools and how you can work with your child’s school to improve experiences for all children.
